There are a couple of very key factors that you should keep in mind before you decide to make that second bet.
Setting
First of all, whether you’re playing a cash game or a tournament (and even what stage you are at in the tournament) should play a part in your decision to bluff a second time. If you’re in the second day of what promises to be a four-day event, you might want to hold off on throwing away chips to avoid becoming a rail bird. But if you’re at a cash game, being caught bluffing might actually help you by the end of the session, if you play it right.
The Guessing Game
The most important hard-evidence factor comes in when you have to guess what your opponent is holding. As a rule, the more marginalized his holding are (or you think they are), the more likely he should be to toss them.
Play Your Opponent
Some people are tenacious call stations that soak up every bet with vigor, some snap like a twig under pressure, and most fall somewhere in between. Know how your opponent would respond to different sized bets and act accordingly.
What Do You Want In The End?
Making a continuation bet (essentially bluffing cos you have jack shit) is key to making your opponents give you the pot, but you must weigh the risks along with the rewards, just like when you’re forced to make a choice about seeing a girl after being given the anal ultimatum.
