Cash games have the benefit of the long run possibilities, but intentionally takes a coin flip in a tournament can be a bad idea, especially when you’re in the money and get paid for outlasting other players.
Added Benefit
Aside from long-term image control, you can expect an opponent to play worse immediately after taking a loss in a 50-50 situation.
Stay Even Headed
You must be completely certain that you can control your emotions enough to be mentally prepared for a loss, which will come roughly half the time. If you can’t keep it together, you lose a lot of the advantage.
On The Other End
When you have a choice and make the decision to make an all-in play on a 50-50 shot, it can be an important play to integrate into a winning game. But when you don’t get the option and are playing those odds anyway, the situation loses a lot of its entertainment value.
