I hate what Joan Rivers and others were saying or eluding to on the Celebrity Apprentice show about poker players. In my experience (proof to follow), it’s an incredibly tight community of lovely and respectful people. I’m sure a lot of it comes from a couple of things:
- Pro poker players have a certain level of freedom (perceived at least, because you still have to put in a shit load of work), and hence tend to live fairly desirable lives
- They are typically well above average in intelligence. This isn’t smugness, just a fact about the type of person that can succeed in this industry.
- Jealousy. Poker is rock ‘n’ roll and very cool.
As an example, here are some Tweets that have come in for Annie Duke after her loss on the show. I think they exemplify community spirit, a tight network of friendship and an outpouring of love for ones friends.
